Frequently Asked Questions

PSI FAQ

This page covers the most common questions families ask about Phoenix Sports Institute, including academics, training, ESA, trial details, policies, and what to expect day-to-day.

Basics Start here
Is Phoenix Sports Institute a school?
PSI is not a school. Families use their own homeschool curriculum or online provider. PSI provides a structured place for supervised study blocks, sports performance training, life skills programming, nutrition habits, and a community service culture.
What ages does PSI serve?
Initial programming is designed for middle school and high school student-athletes, generally ages 11–18. Exact age groupings may vary based on demand and staffing.
Do athletes have to play a specific sport?
No. PSI training is built around universal athletic development: strength, speed, agility, power, conditioning, and durability. It supports multi-sport and year-round athletes.
What are “Founding Families”?
Founding Families are a limited group that enroll early while PSI finalizes year-one capacity and operations. Founding Families receive locked-in tuition pricing and provide feedback that helps refine the program.
Where is PSI located?
PSI serves North Phoenix and nearby areas. Final site details and opening timelines will be shared with interest list families first.
Academics
What happens during the academics block?
Students work on their homeschool or online curriculum in a quiet, structured space with adult supervision and Wi-Fi. PSI helps provide routines, accountability, and a consistent study environment.
Do we have to use a specific curriculum provider?
No. Families may use their existing homeschool curriculum or online provider. PSI can recommend options if you want additional structure, but families remain responsible for curriculum choice and progress.
Does PSI provide tutoring or academic instruction?
PSI provides supervised study blocks, structure, and accountability. If tutoring is offered, it may be limited and based on staffing and demand. Families should assume primary instruction remains with the homeschool provider/curriculum.
Does my student need a laptop or device?
For most online programs, yes. Students should bring the device required by their curriculum. PSI will share device expectations before enrollment.
Training
What does PSI Performance training include?
PSI Performance focuses on universal athletic development:
  • Strength and foundational lifting technique
  • Speed mechanics and acceleration
  • Agility, change of direction, and deceleration
  • Power development (jumping, sprinting, explosive movement)
  • Conditioning and athletic durability
Is training safe for younger athletes?
Yes, when coached correctly. PSI emphasizes technique, progression, and movement quality first. Training is scaled by age, experience, and readiness.
Is training individualized or group-based?
PSI uses small-group training with individualized progressions. Athletes may share a session, but loads, regressions, and progressions are tailored to each athlete.
Can PSI work alongside club or team training?
Yes. PSI is designed to complement sport practice by improving strength, speed, durability, and recovery habits without overtraining.
Schedule
What does a typical day look like?
PSI uses structured blocks so athletes can study, train, and build life skills without chaos. The exact schedule may shift by facility and enrollment, but the core format stays consistent: study time, training time, and development programming with clear transitions.
What are drop-off and pick-up times?
Specific times depend on the final facility schedule and the program version (full-day vs. trial). PSI will publish official times before enrollment opens.
What if my student arrives late or needs to leave early?
PSI expects consistent attendance. If a student must arrive late or leave early, families will follow check-in/check-out procedures for safety and accountability.
Will PSI offer after-school or evening training?
Yes, that is part of the long-term plan. Availability depends on facility scheduling and staffing. Interest list families will be the first to hear about added offerings.
Two-Month Trial
What is the May–June two-month trial?
The trial is a half-day program designed to build trust, test the schedule, and prove the model. It includes performance training, life skills/leadership, and entrepreneurship/projects. It does not include the academics block.
Why doesn’t the trial include academics?
The trial focuses on the most visible, high-impact blocks first: training, leadership/life skills, and project work. Academics will be part of the full-day model once final operations, staffing, and facility flow are confirmed.
Can trial families become Founding Families?
That is the goal. Trial participation is intended to create a clear pipeline into the first wave of long-term enrollment options, subject to capacity and timing.
Can we do only one block during the trial?
Yes. PSI offers trial a la carte enrollment for families who only want a specific block (performance training, life skills, or entrepreneurship/projects).
Pricing
What does tuition include?
Tuition covers participation in the selected program version (full-day or trial half-day) and the included program blocks. Nutrition is an optional add-on when offered.
How does the $250 refundable deposit work for Founding Families?
The deposit reserves a Founding Families spot and helps PSI plan staffing and capacity. Refundability is subject to PSI’s written deposit terms at the time enrollment opens.
How does a la carte pricing work?
A la carte enrollment allows families to select one program block without full enrollment. It is priced as a premium option for “one-block” families and is not intended to be cheaper than full enrollment.
How do payments work?
PSI will publish official billing details (monthly schedule, accepted payment methods, autopay options, and due dates) before enrollment opens.
ESA
Do you accept Arizona ESA funds?
PSI plans to accept ESA funds from eligible students. Families are responsible for confirming eligibility and approved uses with their ESA advisor.
How do you keep ESA services clear and compliant?
PSI separates study blocks and training blocks and communicates service categories clearly. Families should always confirm current ESA rules and approved purchase categories with their advisor.
Will you provide invoices or documentation for ESA reimbursement?
PSI intends to provide standard documentation families may need, but reimbursement rules can change. Families should confirm required formats and approval steps with their ESA advisor.
Nutrition
What is the PSI Fuel (Nutrition) add-on?
PSI Fuel is the optional nutrition add-on focused on consistent fueling habits for student-athletes. Specific offerings (snacks, recovery options, or meal add-ons) will be communicated before enrollment.
How do you handle allergies or dietary restrictions?
Families will provide allergy and dietary restriction information during enrollment. PSI will outline ingredient handling, allergen policies, and any limitations before the nutrition add-on is offered.
Do you provide supplements or protein shakes?
If recovery shakes or similar options are offered, PSI will require parent/guardian permission and will communicate ingredients and standards clearly.
Policies
What behavior is expected from students?
PSI is built on structure and accountability. Students are expected to follow directions, respect staff and peers, keep hands to themselves, and represent a high-character environment. A formal code of conduct will be provided before enrollment.
What is the phone policy?
PSI will publish a clear phone policy. In general, phones should not disrupt study blocks or training. Any exceptions (medical needs, family communication) will be handled with staff.
What is the refund or cancellation policy?
PSI will publish an official refund/cancellation policy prior to enrollment. Because PSI reserves limited capacity and staffing, policies will prioritize predictable attendance and enrollment commitments.
Safety
How are students supervised?
PSI uses adult supervision during study blocks and coached supervision during training. The program is built around structure, clear rules, and consistent staff presence.
What happens if an athlete gets injured?
PSI will have clear incident procedures. Parents/guardians will be contacted, and appropriate first response steps will be taken based on the situation. Emergency services will be called if needed.
Are coaches and staff screened?
PSI intends to use appropriate screening and hiring standards for anyone supervising minors. Details will be provided in parent onboarding materials.
Logistics
Do you provide transportation?
Not at launch. Families are responsible for drop-off and pick-up. PSI may explore carpool coordination tools or future transportation solutions depending on demand.
What should my student bring each day?
PSI will send an official checklist, but families should expect:
  • Athletic shoes and training clothes
  • Water bottle
  • Device/laptop if required by curriculum (full-day)
  • Any medically necessary items (inhaler, EpiPen) with proper forms
How will PSI communicate with families?
PSI will publish the official communication method (email, text, parent portal, or app). Expect clear weekly updates, schedule reminders, and incident/important notifications.
I still have a question. How do I reach you?
Email info@phoenixsportsinstitute.com or join the interest list and leave a note with your question. PSI will respond as scheduling and launch operations allow.
